What do these 4 conditions have in common? I co-manage these conditions in kids. As a pediatric chiropractor, I have special training in assessment and treatment of infants, toddlers and children. The above four conditions, along with reaching developmental milestones all have credible research to support the benefits of chiropractic care. I will discuss briefly how I help with each condition. There isn't enough blog space to get in depth, however, if you and your family are experiencing any of these conditions and are interested in finding out more feel free to email me any questions you might have.
1. Ear Infections: Often chronic in nature and typically have an inner ear drainage component. My philosophy is to change the biomechanics and reduce the root cause. If the inner ear isn't draining properly due to muscle function and alignment issues, resolve this and viola ear infections clear up.
2. Colic: This is clinically defined as three hours or more of inconsolable crying 3 days a week or greater, under the age of three months. There can be several reasons for this type of crying, however, if it is digestive/lower back or head/neck related chiropractic care can definitely help.
3. Torticollis: Your baby's head is tilted, which typically results in a flattening of one side of the back of the head. Shortened muscles are the culprit here and pediatric-specific chiropractic mobilization, plus take home stretches resolve this issue nicely.
4. Reflux: This one is a complicated issue. I often see this in babes that have a few different conditions at once. A thorough assessment is required, with potential for referral with a lactation consultation, medical doctor, dentist etc. Once again a properly trained pediatric chiropractor can assess and appropriately refer, as well as co-manage with significant improvements.
Pediatric-specific chiropractic mobilizations are gentle and effective. Visits to my office look a lot like playing with your babes at home. Toddler chiropractic looks a little more like tomfoolery and running around. Regardless, everyone is relaxed and smiling.
